i need people to be careful about what they are sharing about hurricane hilary because i’m seeing a lot of false information being spread. namely, i’m seeing a lot of people say that it’s a level 4 hurricane. which is true. but they aren’t mentioning the very important caveat that by the time it reaches california, it will have largely declined and will instead simply be a tropical storm. which is still historic for california, but it’s not quite as scary for people living there as it’s being made out to be. It’s not going to cause major issues with infrastructure or large-scale flooding like a full-blown hurricane would. the majority of people will be, at most, mildly inconvenienced by it.
i think the response to this storm is showing a very clear difference in how we treat natural disasters that hit areas associated with wealthy white people as opposed to one’s that hit larger populations of black people like lots of the southeast. it makes me fear for how funding and help might be given to california, which needs it less, and then not be available next time somewhere like georgia or louisiana really need it.
it also has the average californian so freaked out that they are taking resources and focus away from the people around them that actually might be seriously affected by this. so please, if you are in california, look out for the homeless and/or lower income people in your area. do what you can to make sure they have access to adequate shelter to protect them from the wind and rain. and that they have enough food and water to stay put until this storm passes.
also just stay off the roads as much as possible. people already drive like assholes around here and will probably be even worse during this. everything should have calmed down by tuesday at the latest.

Something deeply painful is the fact that seasons, especially fall, dont feel the same. Not because of individual maturity but because climate change has impacted the weather patterns so so so much that we cant even experience the same annual shifts that our ancestors have for centuries
I feel displaced, i yearn for the spring, summer, fall, and winter that i can barely remember experiencing
To make things worse, if you’re under 50-60 years old, you can’t even remember what normal seasons were like because you weren’t alive to experience them

I was born in 1997, so about 20 years after this shift occurred. There is an immense difference between the climate now and the climate I remember growing up in, but the way I experienced the seasons in my childhood was already fundamentally different from what the seasons were supposed to be like! My parents were pretty much the last generation to experience a normal climate, and that’s just… incredibly sad

in this thread, the OP talks about how a local cop in their small town in Ohio is stalking him and, in particular, his fiancée, to the point that they’re afraid to leave their home.
A lot of the deleted comments are recommending cameras on the house and the cars
a lot more of them are recommending OP file a complaint, and refuse to leave until he gets the forms he needs
and a few are discussing the way small-town cops work with little to no oversight, and that it might be good to talk to someone higher up the chain.
none of these comments needed to be deleted. none of these comments are harmful or malicious in anyway. All of these comments are helping OP learn and exercise his rights as a citizen, and all of them were deleted. What all the comments have in common is that it would cause the cop to face any kind of consequences for behavior that, were a civilian doing it, would be illegal.
hey if you find yourself trying to answer someone in this situation and the mods aren’t letting you, please DM the OP. worst case scenario they just ignore you but I’ve messaged a lot of people privately on Reddit when the mods were trying to get them killed and it was literally always the right call
oh my god this is me. i was addicted to designer amphetamines and completely delusional at the time of writing this. i had lost forty pounds and thought i was hot shit. i thought i was the reincarnation of Kurt Vonnegut. this was serious, and my friends laughed when they saw this go viral on twitter. it made me realize i had issues and im sober now. im also shocked i managed to stay employed at that time. To answer your question: im from LA but I grew up all around. I was living between Baltimore and NYC at the time. My mom is a beautiful Italian woman (Milan by way of Bolzano) and my dad is an insufferable Mexican from Montreal.
